He grew up in the Bay Area in sunny California. He also has a physical disability, which made coming out that much more difficult. Matthew struggled with his marginalized identities and at times did not feel included in the "mainstream" gay community. Matthew did his dissertation on the experiences of gay men with physical disabilities, looking at the intersections of both identities as one is coming out. This study revealed that many of the participants had a lot of support around their disability but not gay identity, the more religious the family the harder the coming out process was, and that gay men with disabilities didn't feel accepted in gay spaces that weren't accessible. They felt gay men had impossible expectations for a perfect abled body guy. He hopes to incorporate some of his research and experiences in this group, giving you all the space to discuss what it is REALLY like to be gay. Please email matthew@witterwellness.com if you have any questions. Group session is : Sunday (2 PM) EST All group sessions are in Eastern Standard Time, USA but members can live anywhere in the world.
